The Counterbalance lift truck is the most common type of lift truck found in the industry. The truck is versatile in that it can operate within the racking of a warehouse and outside loading vehicles.
Reach trucks are narrow trucks designed to be manoeuvrable, fit in narrow aisles and lift to greater heights than other trucks such as the Counterbalance. They are designed to negotiate in and out of tight aisles and are perfect for pallet storage within warehouses.
Fitted with a telescopic boom that extends and retracts, a Telescopic Handler can reach places to pick up and put down loads that many other lift trucks are unable to do.
The Pivot Steer truck resembles a standard forklift with the exception that there is an additional function to swing the mast to a 90-degree angle either side by way of the truck being articulated.
There are two types of low-level pallet trucks, solely pedestrian operated whereby the operator walks alongside the truck, alternatively they can be rider operated with a fixed or a fold down platform that the operator stands on.
There are a few variations of these types of pallet trucks, however their purpose is the same, to offer the versatility of a regular Counterbalance lift truck but on a smaller scale. They can be operated in narrow aisles and stack and de-stack pallets from racking up to a height of 5.5 metres.
Order Pickers are found in most distribution centres and warehouses and are mainly used for low and high-level order picking in narrow aisles. A lift truck made to make the life of an employee easier by raising them up to the required height to pick stock from pallets on racking.
The main advantage of the Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) lift truck is in the name, it is designed and perfect for high level order picking and for optimising storage space within warehouses and distribution centres.
The Rough Terrain Masted lift truck is similar to the industrial counterbalance except it has the capacity to operate on rough grounds. More often used on farms, moving fruit bins and loading lorries, it has a higher ground clearance and multiple gears to improve traction in wet and muddy conditions.
A Loading Shovel is most commonly used for clearing, moving and loading large amounts of aggregates such as soil, waste and rubble etc. with relative ease by use of a bucket attachment, however the attachment can be changed to serve other purposes.
Sideloader trucks tend to be used in industries such as steel, timber, plastic and concrete. They are efficient in carrying longer and unusual loads safely through tight areas through warehouses and into the yard to load vehicles.
The Vehicle Mounted Lift Truck is often referred to as a Moffett, which is the manufacturers name. The truck is mounted to the rear of a lorry and secured with chains.
A Skid Steer is a piece of construction equipment, its main purpose is for digging and hauling materials. They tend to be used on building sites, farms and quarry’s. They can either be fitted with wheels or tracks.
Understandably, batteries need to be regularly put on charge and subsequently taken off charge. Within the session, candidates will have a more thorough understanding on the safety precautions that should be followed when working near traction batteries.
The Multi Directional Steer (Combilift) is designed to safely handle long and awkward loads through narrow doorways and aisles which improves the storage capabilities of any warehouse.
