Introduction

Although covered within basic training, we do find that some operators neglect the need for correct and thorough battery care.

Understandably, batteries need to be regularly put on charge and subsequently taken off charge. Within the session, candidates will have a more thorough understanding on the safety precautions that should be followed when working near traction batteries.

With this understanding, and the correct care, this should not only prolong the lifespan of the batteries, but also ensure that employees are fully aware of the dangers and hazards that exist within the battery charging process, including the release of hydrogen gas during charging.

This course is suitable for any operators who are responsible for checking and filling the water in the batteries, putting their truck on charge and general battery care.

All trainees will be provided with an accredited or in-house certificate following successful completion of the course which is valid for 3 years; 3 yearly refresher training is recommended.

Course introduction and induction

Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Approved Code of Practice (ACOP)

PPE

Entering the battery charging area

Checking cables for wear and damage

Signage

Topping up with demineralised water

Spills and leaks

Taking specific gravity readings

Removing and replacing the battery (if applicable)
