Introduction

This course is vital when working with children in any capacity; you need to know what to do in an emergency situation. Paediatric first aid can be a daunting prospect, however we are confident that following the completion of this course delegates will be more confident in dealing with the most common medical scenarios that may arise whilst working with children.

For those who are registering as a Child Minder or working in an Early Years setting this meets and exceeds the requirements for these individuals. Our Paediatric courses are approved by councils across the UK and we adhere to the latest learning outcomes set out by awarding organisations.

The twelve hour course can either be completed wholey in-person, or six hours online and six hours classroom (in-person) and can either take place on site at a customer’s premises or in one of our accredited training centres.

What will be covered?

Course Content

All our first aid courses fully meet the UK and European Resuscitation Council Guidelines 2021 as per the HSE requirements.

Hours CPD Certified: 12

All trainees will be provided with an accredited or in-house certificate following successful completion of the course which is valid for 3 years; 3 yearly refresher training is recommended.

Roles and responsibilities

Assess an emergency situation

Provide first aid for a child or infant who is unresponsive

Child or infant choking

Child or infant bleeds

Child or infant with bites, stings and minor injuries

Paediatric CPR introduction and AED

When to call for assistance

Child or infant with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints

Child or infant with head and spinal injuries

Child or infant with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose

Child and infant with sudden illness

Child or infant with extremes of body temperature

Child or infant with burns and scalds

Resuscitation of children

An introduction to heart attacks and strokes
