Introduction

Train to become an RTITB Lift Truck Instructor and Examiner with our comprehensive 10-day course.

New instructors will require the ten-day course, those wishing to re-validate their current qualification have the choice of either a five or three-day course (three day course – AITT only).

Practical test to instructor standard
Candidates will be tested on the lift truck to instructors standard. The candidate must score 25 penalty points or fewer to pass. If the candidate fails to pass on the first attempt, one additional attempt may be made during the course.
Candidates will be required to conduct a pre use check on the lift truck.
Candidates will be required to deliver 3-4 practical lessons during the course. The lessons are marked progressively throughout the 10 days, a pass mark must be achieved by the end of the course. Guidance and support will be given by the course instructor, working with candidates individually focussing on areas that require improvement.
Candidates will be required to deliver two class-based theory lessons. These are also marked progressively with guidance and support given throughout.
There are four theory tests that candidates are required to pass during the course:
  • Operator Theory Test: pass mark – 80%
  • Health and Safety Legislation: pass mark – 100%
  • Instructional Techniques: pass mark – 80%
  • Operator Testing: pass mark – 80%
Candidates will be required to demonstrate their ability to setup and conduct the 3 basic operators skills tests in accordance with ABA standards, this includes:
  • Pre use check test
  • Theory test
  • Practical test of operating ability
Candidates will be required to write reports following observations of operator testing.

Check your eligibility for this course

To undertake this course:

  • Prior to attending the course, candidates must be in possession of a current operators test certificate of basic operating skills for the machine type nominated at the time of course booking.
  • The certificate MUST be accredited by either AITT, ITSSAR, NPORS or RTITB and dated within 3 years, if not a refresher re-test would need to accompany this certificate.
  • The candidate MUST have, as a minimum, at least 6 months experience and hold an accredited operators certificate.
  • Candidates must have good written and verbal skills.
